Day 20 Munster Germany Riding Along the Highway
Tony's View
Today there was a lot of riding along the highway. You can see Joan standing by the bicycle with what much of the path looked like. We did find a bakery to stop at. We probably went by 8 bakeries today. We both had an apple pastry, and I had a cappuccino. Both very good. This bakery had a slicer so you could slice your bread that you bought fresh from the bakery, I decided to get a picture. Along the highway we stopped at a corn field. It looked like it needed fertilized.
There were a few places that we got off the highway and this one was compacted mud. Good thing it wasn't raining.
If ever want to take your dog on a bicycle ride, I believe this is the way to do it. Talk about a spoiled doggie.
As along the Danube a few years back, there are many Statues of Mary, Jesus and others. Many crucifixes are just randomly on corners. It is super cool to see these all over the place, so we got a picture of one of the many today.
We had more detours today; a couple were a little hard to get around, but one was super tricky. We just kept pedaling around barricades and we came to a place where they were replacing a culvert.
So, we started thinking of options. We decided to go around it through the farmer's field. We got stuck and Joan helped me pick up the front end to get through the ditch.
And we were off again.
Then I needed to stop and take a picture of the construction. You could see we had the only way around. Luckily, they had a temporary culvert downstream so that we could cross. When I was taking the picture, Joan decided to walk the bicycle for a while, and it was the muddiest area. We had to clean our shoes off when we got back to the road.
Heading into Munster, we thought we would get a picture of how high their corn is over here. Maybe they have some trade secrets. It seems pretty high.

Joan's Extras
We were both pretty tired from our ride today, 53 miles and riding into some hefty winds left us with some sore muscles. Obviously, we were hungry too. We showered and ate at a restaurant to honor my German maiden name.
Walking back to the room, several times we found ourselves wandering into the bicycle lanes. With all the obstacles that Tony has to steer around, and with as much as we are constantly on the lookout for the changing bike lanes, go figure what we are thinking. 😲
I am amazed at everything you are doing! Keep it up.
