Day 23 Haltern am See, Germany Saying Goodbye to new Friends.

Tony's View

What a wonderful stop in Glandorf and we had to say goodbye to our new friends. Back to not being spoiled. 😃
Doing a little bit of backtracking today but seeing it from the other way. Not too far in and the path was closed due to landscaping. Easy detour though.
We went a few miles back to the town of
Ostbevern, where we visited a church on the way to Glandorf. However, this time they had a farmers' market there. Therefore, we had to stop and ended up getting some white plums, yum.
When we came through this stretch of road the first time, we saw these monuments that looked like the stations of the cross. By the time we got around to get a picture, there were only five and we realized that they were the Sorrowful Mysteries. Interestingly, at that time it was Tuesday, and we were saying the Sorrowful Mysteries rosary when we were going past them. This time we found them again. We stopped to get pictures and the side facing us now is the Glorious Mysteries. Here are some pictures. The monuments were about .5 Kilometers apart. The one side was the crucifixion and the other side the resurrection. Pretty cool.

Then when we got to the 5th Glorious Mystery, I had to stop to get a picture both of the monument and close up. This is one of my favorite rosary mysteries showing Mary being crowned by The Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

When we were back in Munster, they have this huge bicycle shop. Since everyone rides bicycles everywhere, selling bicycles is a big market. Multiple stories of many bicycles.
I decided to pump up the tires and asked if we could borrow a pump. They were closed but the door was open with a bench over the door. They like to have door and windows open over here since no one has A/C. I asked over the bench if I could borrow a pump and he got one for me.

We passed all these bakeries on the way to Glandorf in Munster last time, but this time we stopped, and both got a yummy apple pastry. They had comfy seats right outside the store. After finishing our morning pastry, I noticed that next door was an ice cream/gelato stop. I got a small cone and enjoyed the chairs a little longer.
We had some really beautiful paths today, and this was one of them lined with trees for beautiful shade. The temperatures are rising again, but 88 degrees is so much better than 98 degrees.
Soon down the road we ran into the same closed road again with the culvert being replaced. But this time we knew what to do and made it through easily.

Nice thing about this type of construction is that we had no traffic and the road ended up being our widest bike path. 🤣🤣
We passed some apples for sale along the road so Joan walked back to get us some. Joan thinks it is some kids selling them to raise money for something.
We arrived at our Airbnb about 48 miles later and had an obstacle to get our bicycle in. When looking online at the pictures the room was ground level and you could see patio doors going into the room. Well, it was a walk out basement. With the houses so close together, that means a lot of stairs. We took lots off the bicycle including the fairing and carried both down these steps.
It is the first place we have ever had where the front door enters the bathroom, very interesting. I guess I could answer the front door and be on the toilet. Not a good picture, sorry 🤣🤣🤣.  Went out to eat at a restaurant about 1.5 Km away. Outdoor seating was in the sun, so we ate indoor. Tomorrow we will be back on the Rhine River after our side excursion to Glandorf.

Joan's Extras

We talked lots on the ride today about our wonderful experience with our new friends in Glandorf. Hopefully, we get to see them again someday. Auf Wiedersehen or until we meet again!
