Day 3. Zurich, Switzerland  Uh-Oh, our last day in Zurich

Joan's View

Today started out pretty normal with Tony oiling the tandem in our airy room. As we started to ready for the day, we moaned our Grandson Todd's first word, Uh-Oh! Tony realized that he packed his helmet mirror and our sunglasses in the cases that we sent to Budapest. Yikes!
While looking for a bike shop, Tony found a  friend                                                                                       sharing in his pain.

At that point, our plans changed, and we started looking for bike shops. After walking some distance amongst the winding cobblestone streets of Zurich, and talking to some locals, we found a mirror at our 3rd bike shop. They only had one kind, but Tony hopes to make it work. Another whew! Still working on sunglasses though so stayed tuned to see what we find.

We got back to our touring plans and walked to our tour bus pick up spot, after a little rest for some coffee. We did the Best of Switzerland tour that took us throughout Zurich. Some ducks enroute also reminded me of some of Todd's favorite words, "quack, quack."
Note the clear water too.

A stop at Lake Zurich for a photo opp.

We walked around and interestingly learned that Zurich has over 1,200 fountains that are all drinkable, just like Rome! I did a pose drinking from the fountain like Wade did in Rome. 😜
This fountain was a worker carrying grapes so the plaza is called Weinplazt. The Romans actually brought wine making to Switzerland when they invaded Switzerland after the time of Christ.

Then the bus boarded a ferry to take us to the other side of Lake Zurich.

Leaving the ferry, the bus took us up a hill to a gondola that took us to the top for a marvelous view of the city and surrounding foothills. You can see the gondola in the lower right of the picture.

From there we hiked just a short distance through some woods to an area with a small eatery. Tony again got a large beer and I made friends with the local animals.
Tony veered off of the path yet again. He was actually standing on a cliff.

The water closet at the eatery had one of the best signs of all times!

After our tour, we had some time and so we savored the beautiful weather. We want to share how at home Tony feels in Zurich with all of the other cyclists. A 2 story bike garage! He is in bike heaven!
Another great find on our meander back to our room - this walking bridge with locks of love attached to both sides of it. Tony is looking for one that has our name on it. 😍

Tony's Extras

One funny thing about the bicycle garage - there was someone pulling out their bicycle and someone was waiting with their bicycle to take their spot. Reminded me of a car parking lot back home.
Yes, I pulled a dumb, dumb in packing the mirror and sunglasses, sending them to Budapest. I learned that dumb, dumb term from my son-in-law, Nick. Yes, we compete on the number of dumb, dumb things we do. This one probably gives me the lead😧. After about 10 minutes in Level 2, I moved to Level 3 and just tolerated it (reference for my conscious leadership friends). Oh well, it's an adventure. I was just hoping it wasn't self inflicted😂.

We went by the Univ. of Zurich. This is where Albert Einstein
studied and taught. I entered the building on the left and went inside. I sat down on the steps and thought about the definition of insanity. Albert said," insanity was doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results," a phrase I love and used when facilitating workshops.  Tomorrow we get to ride our bicycle.
