Day 22 - Šiauliai, Lithuania - Do Biking Stuff at a Museum & Shop

Joan's View

Today was another warm and wonderful day to explore Šiauliai. We started walking along the almost mile long pedestrian street.

It led us to our first stop, the bicycle museum. Even though it is a small museum, it was interesting (and we got in half price because we are seniors 😉). Check out this bike that they labeled, "A future bicycle." Kind of looks like the front of our tandem?

Another bike was ridden by a Lithuanian and nine others around the world. You can see their route on the map. Anybody want to do that ride with Tony?

We also tested a wooden bike and an uncomfortable bench.

Next stop was a bike shop. No pictures from there though. That's just Tony doing more research but in-store this time.

Another find on the pedestrian street was St. Ignatius Loyola Church. The church was locked, but there was a statue of John Paul II nearby. "On September 11, 1993, Pope John Paul II found peace and a shelter of rest there, blessing both the church and the future school." There is now a catholic school next to the church and lots of parents were picking up their kids.

We walked the whole length of the pedestrian street and found a patio restaurant. Yes, Doug,  the beer theme continued there. Tony's dish was even named, "Beer Plate" on the menu.

Tony's Extras

While walking down the long pedestrian street, believe it or not, there were shops. There was one shop of women shoes that had sales. I suggested for some reason that Joan should go in. 😒The next thing I know is that Joan found these cool tennis shoes on sale.👍 I was texting with our kids telling them that they were fast. As you can see in the picture, she was trying to see how fast they are.  If you zoom in close to the new shoes, you can see two shoe strings per shoe. They make the shoes look very unique and stylish. I told our kids that they are so fast they need two shoestrings to hold them on.😂😂 The back story about fast shoes is that when Wade was little, he would test them out to see if they are fast.😁. Linda says Wade still does that. 😂

Tisha, Cara and many others would be proud of Joan in the other picture.  She found a place along the street to donate her old shoes to someone who may need them.

This picture here shows a huge painting on a side of the building showing their support for Ukraine. Many are worried if Putin gets Ukraine that they are next.

Back on the bicycle tomorrow for 4 straight days to get to our final bicycle destination of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.
