Day 26 - Vilnius, Lithuania - Our Baltic Ride is Complete! Bring on the DeLands!

Joan's View

Our last day of riding. We only had 26 miles but there were lots of hills, lots of headwinds, and lots of heavy breathing from the rear rider. I am extremely grateful that we rerouted a week or so ago because otherwise we would have done yesterday's and today's ride in one day. We really needed that break.

We had lots of rest stops today and most were our usual bus stops. These were some of the others though.

We arrived at our Airbnb around 1:00. Time for the victory photo. 

Our 7th long distance ride is complete!

Tony then started dismantling the bike while I carried the pieces up 3 flights of stairs to our Airbnb.

Once it was all in the room, Tony started packing the bike according to the highly perplexing design using precise placement of parts. 

The puzzle

Dinner tonight was us getting back to our roots, a German restaurant.

Exciting News - Look who just showed up tonight 9:15pm at the Airbnb! Our next part of the journey has begun. No biking, but exploring Vilnius, Krakow and Warsaw with this wonderful duo, Bud & Theresa DeLand.

We had some serious hills today. We only went 26 miles but I was exhausted when we were done. I am pretty good with aerobic exercises, but today there was a lot of anaerobic work. That means my heart rate was very high and my breathing, as Joan mentioned, was high. I did know when planning this that we would have some serious climbing coming into Vilnius. 

The brakes on the tandem are need of repair, we had very little brakes. Therefore, I was happy to get in and get the tandem packed. Going to do some major overhauls on our tandem this fall/winter. We will be analyzing options with Ezio at Tipp Cyclery looking at electronic shifting and try to figure out a way to use hydraulic brakes..
