Day 23 - Šeduva, Lithuania - Route Got Rerouted

Tony's View

We wanted to show you how we had to twist, lift and turn our tandem to get it in and out of this Airbnb. It worked, so we are definitely happy with that. On the way in we kept the fairing on which was tougher for two reasons - bulkier and harder for Joan to find a place to lift. By the way, it was her idea for me to let go and get the picture, before you start to beat me up for being cruel to Joan.

We were fortunate today to ride on quite a few bike paths. However, that also means Joan had to get off to maneuver around these turn styles and she insisted on getting another picture.
I was just thinking this has been a pretty normal ride today and all of a sudden our asphalt road turned into a gravel road bordered by two rows of two deep fence with razor wire on both sides. Oops, maybe I messed up this route today. 🤷
Then we came to these gates. Joan, go see if you can open that gate so we can go through 😀. At the time it seemed like a good idea. She said, "You do it, in case it is electrified." Notice, she was willing to sacrifice me😡  We made the wise decision to turn around and find a different route. So back on the major highway again.
Here we are back on a gravel shoulder again, but at least it is wide.
Just a little down the road we saw the two rows of razor wire fence again. I said to Joan, "Get a picture." It definitely looked like a military base of some sort. It says no pictures. So, Joan wouldn't get one close up because she said she didn't want to end up in jail. Another wise choice. 😀
I am sure most of you are wondering why we got this picture. They filled in along the road with sand over a foot deep. It looks like they are ready for asphalt and you can see foot prints in it along with dog prints. Doesn't look like good construction practices to me.😁 Sorry about being a boring engineer.

Joan's Extras

We were blessed today to be on dry, less traveled roads and bike trails. The head winds were a little strong today, but we only did about 30 miles. Our Airbnb tonight is a tiny house on the property of the host. It really is tiny, but the hosts offered us plums and apples from their trees. YUM! YES!
